A bio.
Reed Fischer is a journalist, writer, and editor based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is the Sr. Digital Producer for The Current at Minnesota Public Radio. (He is not the sterling distance runner from Minnesota — though they are in touch periodically.)
His past roles include serving as the editor of Minnesota Monthly magazine and the Bush Foundation’s bMag at Greenspring Media. He also worked as editorial director at GoMN (Bring Me the News, Go 95.3/96.3) and music editor at City Pages in Minneapolis, music editor at New Times Broward-Palm Beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and a staff writer at Triton Digital Media in New York City. His writing has also appeared in Rolling Stone, Village Voice, Paste, and Alternative Press.
Born and raised in Northfield, Minnesota, his first job was delivering the weekend editions of the Star Tribune. Some of his earliest published writing appeared in his hometown paper, the Northfield News.
He received a bachelor’s degree in English and Government at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. While in Upstate New York, he interned for the Albany-based alt-weekly Metroland, hosted a weekly radio show on WSPN-FM, and contributed articles to Skidmore College’s weekly newspaper.
He earned a master’s in Journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia. While there, he covered public safety for the Daily Missourian, and worked as the music editor for the school’s Vox Magazine. He moved to New York to complete a final project about magazine cover development, which included internships at The Fader and the College Media Journal.
He lives in northeast Minneapolis with wife Kate Murray, daughter Willa, and rescue miniature poodle Freddie.
